چکیده

Since the suggestion by Epstein, Post and McDowell (1) that renal conservation of Na is conditioned by the degree of filling of some portion of the arterial tree, various investigators (2, 4-6) have presented conflicting data concerning the role of arterial baroreceptors in the control of aldosterone secretion. Barger, Muldowney and Liebowitz (3, 5) have suggested that the moderator reflex, of which baroreceptors in the carotid sinus and the aortic arch constitute the afferent limb, may lead to both increased sympathoadrenal tone and hypersecretion of aldosterone in experimental congestive heart failure. Bartter, Gann and Mills (2, 6) have reported that baroreceptors located in the thyrocarotid arterial junction provide the afferent limb of the nervous mechanism that leads to hypersecretion of aldosterone after thoracic inferior vena caval constriction in the dog. Davis, Yankopoulos and Holman (4) have found that neither carotid sinus denervation nor subsequent bilateral vagotomy prevented the increased urinary aldosterone excretion and the virtually complete Na retention observed in dogs with ascites secondary to thoracic inferior vena caval constriction. The present study was designed to examine the hypothesis that arterial baroreceptors play an essential role in the regulation of aldosterone secretion.

Are arterial pressure and deformation the sole determinants of baroreceptor activity? Importance of humoral and endothelial modulation in normal and disease states.

A rterial baroreceptors located in the carotid si/ \ nuses and aortic arch play a major role in A. \ control of circulation and regulation of arterial pressure. Increased arterial pressure triggers increased frequency of baroreceptor discharge, which leads to reflex adjustments that buffer the rise in pressure. It is established that baroreceptors are not activated by increases in arterial pres...

The renin-angiotensin system and aldosterone secretion during sodium depletion in the rat.

The role of the renin-angiotensin system in the control of aldosterone secretion was studied in the sodium-depleted rat. Administration of angiotensin II produced a significant increase in aldosterone secretion and arterial blood pressure in normal rats; simultaneous infusion of the angiotensin analogue, l-sarcosine-8-alanine-angiotensin II, blocked both the pressor and the steroidogenic action...

Effect of ATP-Dependent K+ Channel Openers and Blockers on Serum Concentration of Aldosterone in Rats

There are many reports for involvement of ATP-sensitive potassium channels in pancreatic, cardiac and vascular smooth muscle cells. This study examined the effect of single doses of K+ channel openers diazoxide, minoxidil and K+ channel blockers chlorpropamide, glibenclamide on serum concentration of aldosterone in male rats. Blood samples were obtained 60 minutes after drug treatment and serum...

Background and Objective: Diabetes causes damage and impaired renal function. It also causes impaired secretion of endocrine glands that leads to secondary metabolic disorders. Due to the role of curcumin in lowering blood glucose and adjusted antioxidant system, this study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of curcumin on the hormones of pituitary-adrenal axis and renal ind...
